One can only imagine the prominence of
the audience members who packed Hollywood's Catalina Bar & Grill
on April 11 and May 9 of last year to enjoy a live performance
by the great blues and gospel singer, Linda Hopkins.
Born in New Orleans in 1924, Linda
Hopkins came to the West Coast in 1947, where she has remained a
treasure to all who have come to know and love Linda and her
music. Her adolescent little cackle belies the strength of
her voice, the power of her ability to draw the music from deep
in her soul. Her personality bubbles like the spring from
which her music is drawn.
Eleven tracks, classics all, such as
"Down Home Blues," "Let the Good Times Roll," "Stormy Monday"
and "Georgia on My Mind." Linda Hopkins sings with such
charm, such good natured enthusiasm that her warnings of the
"dirty songs" only serve to make "Steppin' Out" and "Black
Drawers" delightfully naughty.
Miss Hopkins is superbly accompanied by
Michael Konik and His Tasty Band, including Andy Howell, piano;
Joel Hamilton, bass; Ken Park, drums; with Ken Richmond
contributing his alto sax and flute.
This is Linda Hopkins' eighty second
birthday present to all of her many fans. If you'd like to
be included, if you'd like to join the party, you can find her
