CD Review BFE Born In A Barn

BFE - Born In A Barn

If you’re a Southern Rocker who likes a little metal mixed in with your down-home boogie, then BFE’s CD “Born In A Barn” is for you. But first, let’s figure out what a “BFE” is. These Ohio rockers realize that in today’s politically correct world, the real name of the band just wouldn’t be seen in many record shops. The letters stand for Bum F**ked Egypt. How’d they come up with that, you ask !? Well, when you live out in the country and a city slicker asks where you’re from...the answer’s “way out in Bum F**k Egypt”...enough said !

OK, back to the CD. “Born In A Barn” is a collection of high energy, straight-ahead rock-n-roll. From the title cut “Born In A Barn”, a razor sharp message to all the city folks who put down the country way of life, to the remake of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”, BFE never lets up. Pedal to the metal, all the way. There’s traces of Blackfoot in “Brush Fire Express” and ”Hound Dog Woman”, a little Charlie Daniels in “Drunk Hillbilly” and a taste of Skynyrd in “Lay Me Down” and “If You See The Sun”.

Frontman Robbie Nichols, who does most of the vocals as well as lead guitar, is a dynamo both on stage and in the studio. With the exception of “Folsom Prison Blues”, he is the main composer of the tunes on “Born In A Barn.” He and Johnny (Todd) Davis provide the dual lead guitar riffs and vocals, with Andy Blevins (rhythm guitar), Matt Spencer (bass), and Jeff Wright (drums), along with Scott Mason (backup vocals).

BFE is in the process of recording their next CD, tentatively titled “Heavy Honky Tonk”. It promises to be another barn burner !

BFE’s web site (www.bfegypt.com ) is being overhauled, so it’s down for now. Other web site http://www.mp3.com/BFEGYPT1 .You can e-mail Robbie Nichols at BFEguitarpicker@aol.com for more information on how to get a copy of “Born In A Barn”. It will be the best ten bucks you ever spent ! But you better hurry, they’re going like...well, a brush fire express out of B.F.E !
