CD Review  O Bando do Velho Jack Como Ser Feliz Ganhando Pouco

O Bando do Velho Jack ~ Como Ser Feliz Ganhando Pouco

By Guilherme Vignini (startrips@uol.com.br)

"O Bando do Velho Jack" is probably the most Southern Rock band in Brasil. They come from Mato Grosso do Sul, a central state away from the major Brazilian urban centers like Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro (something as Jacksonville is far from L.A. or N.Y.).Great musicians, very professional, these guys have conquered an important place in the underground scene and respect by specialized media.

Strongly influenced by Southern Rock (Allman Brothers in particular) mixed with Free and 70's Brazilian rock bands, it gets own sonority and soul. Although singing in Portuguese, the lyrical themes remains the same of the American southern bands.

The original compositions are great such as “Como ser Feliz Ganhando Pouco”, a great opening track, “Eu não Preciso Ir ao Médico” a real nice guitar work from Fabio Terra. Some cool transition to blues in the track “Eu Só Sei Que o Seu Amor nunca Foi Muito Bom Para Mim”.Astonishing performance from the singer Rodrigo Tozzette.

“Cavaleiro da Lua” is a cover from an amazing Brazilian root, Almir Sater, with a new version in the vein of Allman Brothers. This album have other covers ,“All Right Now” (Free), “I’m Your Capitan / Closer to Home” (Grand Funk Railroad) e “Não Fique Triste” (Brazilian Band Peso).

“Nuvens” in a Led Zeppelin mood, allowed cither and all the mushroom soup ingredients. “Agora Falta Um” is dedicated to the original singer Alex Batata, assassinated in a bar fight when he was trying to chill the moods, one of the most southern songs of this cd. The instrumental “Nina” brings all the technical, traditional guitar duets, a solid bass line/consistent rhythm drum and a highly inspired piano.

This CD  is the "bulletproof" why this guys are considered the most Southern Rock band in Brazil, when they play you can feel the southern blood running through them veins.

A high recommended CD that can surprise the American fans of southern rock, as the damn good cold German bands Lizard, Nocturn or Flatman can, right?

Straight from the central Brazilian swamps high quality Rocks!
