This course provides a solid foundation in the business of music. Key topics include comprehensive coverage of each of the four most significant types of business relationships, the five key people every musician needs on their team to succeed, and the four major sources of music revenue, as well as practical and proactive strategies for pursuing a successful career in the music business. Informative panel discussions with top industry professionals in all facets of the music industry offer a practical perspective beneficial to musicians, songwriters, publicists, personal managers--and anyone else interested in making a successful career. Class members are encouraged to present their songs and demo packages for in class evaluation and discussion by panel lecturers including A&R representatives, music publishers, attorneys, music supervisors, and personal managers.

Bobby Borg, a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, has over 25 years of experience as a major label, independent, and DIY artist in the music business. He has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan with a variety of artists, including the multi-platinum group Warrant, Beggars & Thieves, and his own band, Left for Dead. He is the author of the best selling book The Musician's Handbook, A practical Guide To Understanding The Music Business (Billboard Books), a key note speaker and panelist at music business conventions all over the country, and a regular contributor to Music Connection magazine, Singer and a host of on-line sites. Mr. Borg is also a consultant for the independent A&R company Taxi, an artist and label consultant to Revo Records, and a professor of music business at Musicians Institute in Hollywood. A highly endorsed performer, he continues to teach drums and play sessions.
