Charlie Musselwhite ~ CD - 'Sanctuary'

Mary Rudy, http://www.muzikreviewz.com

There is nothing like some O’ down home blues. And there’s only one way to get it, you guessed it, the Charlie Musselwhite way with his CD ‘Sanctuary’.

There needs to be a warning label on this cd that reads: “Beware to listener – dangerous to your heart: Musselwhite will cause you to fall in love with his music. ATTN: habit forming”.
Got to be honest here, this is the first introduction to Charlie Musselwhite music for this reviewer and I am totally in love with this CD. Being a huge blues fan, this cd has given me every bit of blues satisfaction and more.
Musselwhite takes his music and talent to the limit. His harmonica playing is absolutely superb, down and dirty, bluesy (just the way I like it). Charlie can capture your heart and soul with every blow of the harp, every note, every lyric sung.
Charlie Musselwhite has the ideal voice for the blues; he possesses raspy, low, sensual and bluesy vocals. The caliber of talent and musicianship coming from Charlie Musselwhite and the Sanctuary Band is of the highest level. It doesn’t get any better than that!
The Sanctuary Band consists of: Charlie Musselwhite – vocals/harmonica…..Charlie Sexton – vocals/guitar……Jared Michael Nickerson – bass……Michael Jerome – drums. With Special Guests: Ben Harper, The Blind Boys of Alabama.
Our Hot Pickers are: ‘My Road Lies in Darkness’…..’Shootin’ for the Moon’…..’The Neighborhood’…..’Sanctuary’.
There is only one downfall regarding this CD project, the track with ‘Route 19’ is not long enough for me. The harmonica goes right into your heart and soul, 1:05 minutes just are not long enough. Personally I would love to see about 5+ minutes of nothing but harmonica. So this is one listener and new fan of Charlie Musselwhite who will be waiting for the extended version of ‘Route 19’.
