THUNDERGROUND
RADIO interview with TODD RONNING
Thunderground:
Congratulations on the deal with Centurion Records
TR: Thanks,
we're very excited to have Centurion's support. It's great to
have a team of people all working towards getting your music
out to the masses.
Thunderground:
With the label re-releasing your debut album, will there be
any added/bonus tracks included?
TR: I wouldn't
call it a re-release. Our debut has never been commercially
released in North America. Until now it had only been available
from a few web sites and live shows. The album will remain exactly
the same. There was some talk by the label regarding re-sequencing
the album, but after a month or so of listening to the CD, they
felt the song order was perfect and flowed like a traditional
rock album just as we intended.
Thunderground:
How much touring is planned to support the release, and are
there any plans to hit the States?
TR: Plans
are being made right now. Nothing confirmed as of yet but I
can say that it looks like we'll be launching in Seattle and
working our way down the west coast into Oregon and California.
Thunderground: What are your favorite songs to perform live?
Todd Ronning: Hard to say… there's something unique about
each song for me, like the 7/8 time sigs in “Breathe”
the dynamics of “Twilight Child” or the brashness
of “Devil's Road” etc…
Thunderground:
Has writing already begun for the follow-up release due out
next year?
TR: Yes.
We're always writing, but now that we know we have Centurion's
support for a follow-up, the intensity has been turned up to
eleven. We have a lot of music up our sleeve and can't wait
to get back in the studio.
Thunderground:
If so, where does it look to be headed musically?
TR: So far
our latest riffs have an “Into the Everlast” vibe,
you know on the heavier side of things. And we also have some
dynamic stuff which retains a good balance. We're not going
to start chasing a formula or be pinned to one type of song
like so many do.
Thunderground:How
would you describe the music scene in Canada ?
TR: Canada
has a lot of artists making it on the world stage for such a
small population. I don't have an answer for why. Most successful
bands usually leave to LA or New York , in my case Nashville
, that's when everything started moving in the right direction
for me.
Thunderground:
Who are some of the bands main musical influences?
TR: 70's
stadium rock has captured our imagination the most with it's
pure and honest recordings, unmanufactured talent, Les Pauls
through Marshall stacks, soulful gritty vocals and huge drum
trax. It's a long list but here's a few; Deep Purple Led Zeppelin
Free
Thunderground:
What is the Ultimate Goal for King Karma?
TR: Our
ultimate goal is to record an album that stands the test of
time. One that people will talk about for years to come, an
album that remains relative to their lives and in their collection
forever.
Thunderground:
Describe King Karma in FIVE words or less.
TR: Real.
Thunderground:
How do you think the internet has affected the music industry?
TR: It's
another medium that brings attention to independent rock music
and for us it has played a major role in getting heard. Just
as an example, we we're the artist of the week on a Swedish
site which led to numerous offers from all over the world which
ultimately led to Centurion. We would never have received that
much attention that fast through bashing it out in local clubs
or blindly mailing out press kits.
Thunderground:
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. Is there
anything that you would like to close with?
TR: Yes!
I'd like to thank you and everyone at Thunderground Radio for
shining the spotlight on KING KARMA for the month of October.
Its sites like this that keeps rock music rolling. Our debut
will be in stores on October 11 th and be sure to drop-by our
official web site at WWW.KINGKARMA.COM.
