GRIMM AGAIN
Welcome to the crossroads. Welcome to the crossroads, where
the Blues of old meet face to face with the Blues of the future.
Welcome to Kathryn Grimm's record, "Grimm Again."
The times may change and nothing changes music faster than new
technology. Sometimes, technology can alter a genre until the
original feelings and emotions are lost. Fortunately, Kathryn
demonstrates that technology placed in the right hands can be
a beautiful thing.
One needn't read the liner notes to hear clarity of sound, the
precise mix of guitars and drums to know that this is the future
of blues recording.
Kathryn plays both lead and rhythm guitars convincingly. She
plays with a ability that is a tribute to all of the blues guitarists
from Son House and Robert Johnson to Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughn
and Robert Cray, Although her lead riffs are superb, her solid,
low down rhythm tracks was the first to catch this writer's
attention. The bass guitarist Leon “Randy” Randolph
gathers these licks and blends them with the solid drums of
Jeff Swisstack with purpose and conviction.
Kathryn's superb vocals augment her original compositions perfectly.
Her songs are rife with the essence of the Blues. Courtesy of
the afore mentioned technology, she performs both lead and backing
vocals with the assistance of Alexandria Seeley and Marcy Levy.
The album has a Texas roadhouse fell to me, but the Blues tend
to transcend its appointed genre. Labels are unimportant to
music of this quality.
Beautiful, original compositions, heartfelt vocals and excellent
musicians let "Grimm Again" prove that the Blues is
alive and well. Let me state emphatically that with Kathryn
Grimm, the Blues of today and of the future are in good hands.
