Zac Harmon
CD – The Blues According to Zacariah
Zac Harmon co-produced the tracks on this CD, co-wrote many
of the songs, and plays lead guitar, keyboards, and bass on
many of the tracks with his lead vocals. Harmon has written
songs and produced albums for other artists and has appeared
on television and commercials as well.
His first love, however, is the blues, as he shows on this CD
that ranges from the soulful to the spiritual. “That Mighty
High” starts off the ten tracks on a mighty high note,
a spiritual with a funky beat. The last tune, an unnamed instrumental
a little over a minute long, also has a gospel flavor.
The rest of the CD is straight blues. Muddy Waters’s “Mannish
Boy” has an interesting take, with a chorus that yells
affirmation instead of singing. Harmon also covers “It
Hurts Me Too”, sharing vocals with Miss Mickey Champion,
and “It’s Cool With Me”, the latter written
by his former guitar student Eddie Cotton.
The songs co-written by Harmon are more intriguing, in particular
the slow, soulful “Comfort of a Man”, that features
a thoughtful guitar solo by Greg Wright. Another standout is
the rockin’ “Who Knockin”, of the “woman
does me wrong” genre.
There are many guest musicians here, but the tracks all mesh
together well. According to Zacariah, the blues sounds pretty
good.
